Hands-On Dispensing Workshop
Kathy Gross-Edelman
Successful optical dispensers are those who spend as much time and thought on mastering and keeping up with technology of products as they do on skills of correct frame and lens alignment. Winning and keeping customers/patients is not a matter of price, but rather of trust and believability.

You, the dispenser, must inspire confidence in encounters with the consumer/patient. This course will cover the basic frame alignment, advanced fitting skills and shortcuts to adjusting and repairing eyewear. You will learn to have confidence when encountering all kinds of eyeglass wearers.

Participants should bring adjusting tools, a full metal frame with lenses and a nylon cord rimless frame with lenses to participate.

Checklist for Managing and Avoiding Eyewear Remakes
Laurie Pierce
There is nothing more frustrating (and expensive) than when a patient is scheduled to see the doctor for a recheck when the problem was in the eyeglasses needing a specific adjustment. A typical scenario is a patient who complains that she can see in the distance and in the near of her new progressives, but has difficulty seeing at intermediate range. Because the assistant identified a visual complaint (poor intermediate vision), it is tempting to automatically book the patient for a recheck with the doctor. The result is wasted chair time (a luxury most practices cannot afford) when the solution could have been handled by the optician.

We will look at some “case studies” where optical problems are hidden in the prescription, and it is up to us to find
solutions BEFORE we order the lenses or book for a
refraction re-check.

1 Hour8:15–9:15 am
